    MP C4500

I don't know ricoh that well.

Doesn't recognize new toner. Genuine Ricoh toner. Chip is still on the btl. Customer tried 2 different toners.

Anyway to over ride it so they can finish a job?

    Thanks in advance

This. If it says cartridge not recognized then it's a bottle/chip reader issue. If it tries to add toner and the add toner never goes away it most likely is a bad toner pump. They are known to fail, very common problem.

If it's got the lower drawers, it could also be an open lower side cover.

I've seen it before, but it's been a looooong time, and it actually stumped me just recently (probably for longer than it should have ).
l got a call for an MP C2800 from a new client that had picked up one of these machines at an auction or something, loaded toner, and it doesn't do anything. The "add toner" message overrides the "open cover" so it throws you off a little

yes and with the advanced age that the machine has the switches may not make contact well

As you have tried a few new toners sounds like the toner pump has failed on that colour.

As a test you can swap the pump with another colour. (you didn't state which toner you are having this issue with)

machine will not reset NEW TONER added till toner needs are met,you could check VT reading
for that color and if it is 4-5 it is undertoned and as stated toner pump..IF needed just spike the dev unit with 2-3 caps of toner and reinstall.

Spiking will only allow you to know pump is bad,,if it is K pump you could swap cyan and at least be able to print B/W..
I might have a cheap working pump here..

Thanks everyone. Changed the settings SP 3101 suggested on another thread I found on this forum, turned machine off and back on and was still asking for K toner. Open and closed all the doors and it reset and started working !!!

                    Appreciate the help. Thanks again

i had a ricoh several months ago having an add toner issue. even though the genuine ricoh toner in the box said it was for that model, it was not. though i don't remember the exact model. though lucky enough when you opened the cover to install the toner, it had a different part number for the toner. which did not match the number on the box that showed it was for that model. hopefully they have fixed that by now. so just be mindful of that. thank goodness no parts replacement involved.

Pretty sure you will have to revisit this one to install a new pump. I don't know how changing sp 3101 will work for very long. If you disable sp3045, the machine will ignore the low toner situation for a while, and then when depleted it will throw a sc 360-X gamma error.

IF it was wrong model ie trying to use a mpc2800 k toner in a mpc3501 machine.
It will not even see the toner installed and act like no cartridge is installed.
Now accepting a cartridge and trying to add toner is a different issue wth bad pumps or clogged hoses
the main problem..As far as i know there is no magic service mode to fix undertoned condition.....
