Take the glass out and shine a flashlight off of the glass at a shallow angle do the same to the mirrors. I have seen a haze buildup on the optics where they look clean until you do this test.

The only few times I've experienced a similar symptom is after someone has done an engine clear on the machine.
It was recovered by re-entering the non-defaults from the factory birth certificate - most specifically the Grey balance settings

im changing the doc feeder, and or the optics tomorrow, nothing worked, except in copy mode i lightened up the density all the way and the blue shading went away
but, in scan mode, the blue shading is still there no matter what we did.
i checked and re adjusted 4-609-002,4-610-002,4-611=002 to no avail no matter what we put the setting on, extremes, no difference, i lifted up on the doc feeder as it fed difference,

have you tried to run sp801 (reset scanner application)? ..maybe the customer played with the numerous scanner settings(?)
it happened to me a couple of years ago on a mpc2051, I lost at least half an hour to find the combination of settings in the scanner menu, in the photos of the identity cards they all looked African pixeled

I think it might be SP 5801 unless he is referring to Scanner SP.

have you changed anything under the scan resolution settings? i agree with everyone else about the cleaning. i have had times that i cleaned and thought i had done a good job cleaning. only to discover there was a bit more. not saying you didn't.
