Then my bet would be on out of date firmware. Someone probably trying to print something off the net for instance

I would start by looking at the simplest things, that is to say, some drum, or development group, or motor (however) "hard" to turn, simple test that you can do with your hands, it has often happened to me that blocking an engine (even maybe cleaning with the rag, I pressed too hard during rotation) ... anyway look at the smc

SC 899 often caused by trying to print something like an Odds sheet or a playoff brackets sheet from a questionable web site. Sheet contains a Trojan that is downloaded could install all sorts of malware When you try printing it straight frokm the website, the unrecognized code causes an error in processing in the print engine. Ergo SC 899. Try print from Print Preview. That "flattens" the page removing all non-printable code. Can also print troublesome PDF from print preview.

And if you read through the Firmware History bulletin, close to that many fixes for the 03s.

Very common issue on early METIS models. Unplug the network cable, update ALL the firmware, reconnect the LAN & get your client to run the same print job again.

Could also be a failing HDD but I'd start with the firmware.
