I've had this happen on several installs, and I don't know the reason. But when I'm sure all settings are correct, and I can ping the machine, I just go ahead and select "Ricoh type C Adapter" from the drop down menu on the page you have displayed, and proceed from there.

and SP5-985-001 (on board NIC) is set to 1 (on) and not 2 (limited) ?
Although I'm not sure 'limited' would allow you to log into WIM

Did you try turning off the auto detect on the Netwrok speed and manually selecting 100 or 10M speed?

Sounds like DHCP is enabled and the MFD has been assigned a non-default device name. This may cause the DHCP sever to assign a random IP. Turn off DHCP and assert that there is a fixed IP address in the MFD and reload a new printer driver in the PC,or force a new Port using the current printer driver. Make sure you click apply if forcing a new Port with a fixed IP address.

Ping the MFD with the new fixed IP address.

Type arp -a in a DOS window and check for the arp IP address entry of the MFD ?

                    Something is odd bod.

true.. it must be something you're missing. 99% of every "can't-print" situation i had, it was the network.

if not static-ip, make it static
                      check for ip conflict
double check the interface configuration and the configuration of the printer on the PC..

by the way, what's the OS of the PC ?

You must check the SNMP settings from WIM (must be same as default):

Comunity name is public, access type is read-only and manager address is 0.0.0.0
Comunity name is admin, access type is read-write and manager address is 0.0.0.0

If the manager address is changed the printing possible only from host with this IP-address.

Another way, someone changed the access range (range of IP addresses).
In this situation you could not open WIM.
Only one way to reset is telnet (access flush).

                          Hi

Finally found the cause. Sorry to say i was a idiot for not looking there in the first place. All TCP/IP protocols were disabled. Sorry for all the trouble.

Probably some smart arse that changed it.

                          Thanks

I feel your pain. Some stupid people like to fiddle where they shouldn't and then we're at fault because we assume they're responsible adults and everything is as it should be.

The network card on your Dell can detect and switch to cross-over. Not all laptops can, so don't automatically rule that out.
