Hello fellow wizards of the copier world. I'm about to loose my wizard hat if I don't figure this one out. If you see the attachment you will note a dotted line running the length of the page. This is not supposed to be there. It does not do it on self prints, only copies, and it doesn't matter if it's on the glass or the doc feeder. The line is always in the same place and is toward the leading edge. Anyone seen this before?
ARM317 dotted line on copies

Saw a similar problem on an MX color machine a few years ago. It was a small hair hanging in the scanner lamp assembly. The hair being so thin was causing the line to be dotted, instead of solid. Maybe worth a thorough check of the scanner, as your problem is only on copy as well. Just a thought.
Otherwise, I'd be reseating all cables & CCD. Also check your AE settings in sim 46. -
Im with Wazza on this one. Wipe the mirrors, CCD and lamp off then grab the can of air and go nuts.
It looks like your running the paper in landscape (why?) does the dotted line go from edge to edge on the paper or is it getting erased by the copy void?
The trail edge looks like the void is present but the lead edge is not. Im guessing however thats been cut off from the scan.
For a fun experiment put the machine into text mode and crank the exposure slider up to 5. Does your dotted line get darker or maybe become a line?
If it stayed the consistant density i'd be slightly more leaning towards Image processing (boards)Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

Ok so front to rear frame, thats a bit more messed up. It's always in the same spot?
I'd still be curious what darkening the copy in text mode would do.Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

Always in the same spot. I'll try the exposure next time I'm down that way. I did clean the optics and even pulled the cover and cleaned the lens. I think I'll try an exposure lamp, but I don't want to start just throwing parts at it.I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.Comment

Does this thing have scan or fax? Does it happen in those modes?Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

As I see it, you still haven't determined if this is a scanner or a print engine issue. Run some sim 064 self prints. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

His first post stated it wasn't on self prints. I sure does look like the star wheels though.
I think I'd try to see if you can pick it up at 400% to make it out. Also try adjusting your exposure really dark.
It's front to rear & not paper moving direction ? Does it repeat when running ledger ?Comment

aa99c6004adc.pdfI've attached more examples. One at 129% and one at 64%. On the 129% the line doesn't move or change, at 64% it moves a little but does not change size. Another thing, I know you can't see it on the scans, but if you run multiple copies and put two of them side by side under a magnifying glass, each dot is identical from one page to the next. To me that says that the copier is actually seeing something and putting it on the page. I also tried the exposure setting to full dark. There was no change in the line. Yesterday I swapped out the CCD unit, no change. I'm getting a 257 in today on trade, I guess I'll just start swapping out parts till I find the one causing the problem. Or maybe a little C4 would fix it.I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.Comment
