    BH-C-284e, rookie question....

We started to upgrade some of our older rentals with a little newer BH-C-284e. Our specialist for that "newer" generations has Covid and is in the hospital. Myself I didn't care for that C-XX4e generation until now since I'm very busy with total different equipment. Got some decent machines from a wholesaler but all of them have their hard drive removed. I installed a hard drive with 250GB and the machine is asking now for an "Encryption Key or Formatting of the Hard Drive" (or words to that extend, its in German language, you know....) So, now I'm lost, when I hit the Utility Button Button trying to enter the service mode its giving me in the display only the soft buttons #3 Administrator Settings, #4 Check Consumable Life and #8 Device Information. No way to enter the Service Mode. What now?

    Any help please?

          Hi,

You should be able to get into service mode even when asking for the encryption, etc. Do you have a 320GB hard drive to try? I know it shouldn't matter but this was what came with machine from factory.

Another thing came to mind, was the stick of RAM also removed when they took out hdd?

The reason I'm thinking different hdd is I've been through same thing you describe several times and after swapping around hdd's I was eventually able to get into service mode to format hdd.

Seem to recall there was something on this forum about that encryption message?

Enter CE mode perform an all clear reboot then set the HDD as installed update the firmware & movie animation file.

This is just a dealer causing grief for anyone that buys these machines wholesale..They are removing the drives (probably at customer request) but not doing the work needed before pulling them out..If they would just disable the Bizhub secure stuff (or do a physical format before the drive is removed) then this wouldn't even be an issue..You need to go into service mode, ensure the HDD is set and do at least 1 physical format. This will remove BH secure and any of it's settings. E

No way for me to call up the service mode. Tried everything known to me.....
There are already 3 machines with this problem. Have no working machine of these series otherwise I would try to clone its HD, but I expect, even when I have a working HD, cloning will not work either. Afraid to touch the rest in our warehouse.

Do trouble reset procedure from there don't hit trouble reset but enter S-0-0-S-0-1 then 9272x4. Job done.

Yup! That's the solution. It works for sure!

                      Not for me.
Turned the main power switch on while I was pressing the yellow Reset Key. Dot appeared, didn't touch "Trouble Reset" but entered S-0-0-S-0-1 than 4 times 9272 but nothing happened. Tried the same procedure but with turning the main power switch off again afterwards, waited >10 seconds but no difference.

Machine is still asking for an encryption code or formatting of the HD. Encryption code is unknown and the service mode is not accessible for me.

I'm almost sure a HD formatted with Windows will not help neither nor did a working 250GB (have no 360GB here) working drive from an old BH-C-280.

                      Any other idea's please?

So basically you're locked out from admin and service mode.
If yes you have no choice but flash that boat anchor with reset tar

install a hdd. with all sectors deleted, no format, raw drive. see if you can get to service mode with it installed, you should under most circumstances be able to get to service mode via trouble reset back door.the only time iv'e not been able to get in is when system was corupted. another way to go about this would be to wipe the board, install new fw and then install hdd . (overkill)

omg, just select format HDD, its a no brainer.
worry about codes after you can get into the machine!

Hey, Ive worked with hansoon in the past..he's not a uneducated end user...If he says he can't get into admin or service mode I believe him..I would try and go back to the wholesaler unless you bought them as is..I think the problem is the HDDs were removed with out being unset, or formatted..Not sure how you go about fixing this, but for all of our customers that had a HDD go bad with Bizhub secure enabled, you were forced to do a physical wipe through admin mode after the new drive was installed. The lock and or encryption password will not match and you cannot proceed. E
