    Right to bear arms

The right to bear arms has existed in English common law for at least 300 years and is imported into Canadian law by the preamble of the BNA Act, 1867 and section 26 of the Charter. Section 26 declares that traditional rights not listed in the Charter continue to have force and effect in Canada. The first explicit recognition of the right to bear arms in British-Canadian law occurs in the 1689 Bill of Rights. It is re-affirmed by the celebrated Blackstone in his Commentaries as one of the five most important rights of British subjects; and confirmed in several 18th and 19th century precedents. Although this right is subject to regulation by parliament, in Sparrow (1990), the Supreme Court affirmed that regulation of a right does not automatically extinguish the right. The right to bear arms is thus an historical right of all Canadians; affirmed by section 26 of the Charter.

Maybe to make this thread more productive, we should post tips about how not to get shot in America. i have a couple.

When traveling on the road in America, don't flip anybody off, they may have a gun.

If you are involved in a verbal confrontation with someone and they turn and walk back to their car, you better run, they are going to get their gun.

Never joke about robbing a place, the clerk has a gun.

If you are in the rural south, everyone is armed.

At a bar or club, the safest place is inside, all the guns are in the parking lot.

You should only hear firecrackers on July 4th and New Years Eve.The rest of the year it's going to be gunfire.

If you are somewhere there is a lot of people and a bunch of them start running...RUN!

I hope this helps any of you planning to visit.

Yes, you are correct. The vast majority of the murder/ suicides in the USA are due to hand guns. Similarly, although a much smaller number, the vast majority of mass killings in the USA are due to assault guns. And yes, according to President Obama, if just one more gun law prevents one more death from firearms then it is worth it.

Article states the family had no known ties to the gang, but the neighbourhood is known to have gang-related activity regularly apparently.

Seems like some illiterate moron with daddy's gun playing gang-banger got the address confused...
