I was in the supermarket when I got a message that there were 24 singles in my area. I think I am going to delete the Kraft cheese app.

My youngest is 32 and has his own daughter.

Also have a 24 year old granddaughter.
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

Dang, you have a head start! First grand-? is on the way, due in January, courtesy of our oldest daughter and her terrific husband.

My oldest is 45 with two son and a step daughter. Oldest grandson has started college. Step grand daughter is starting high school I believe.

I do have a great/great niece who just turned 1 a little over a month ago.

My count down timer says I've got 1720 days until retirement so what is going to happen to this industry when all us Grumpy Old Gits wander off into the sunset? It seems that the average age of techs these days is in the grandfather range and there doesn't seem to be a new generation coming up behind us.
Ten years ago we were always getting techs with very good credentials ringing up looking for a job but these days, nothing. The last time we advertised for a tech the pickings were very slim. There are a few guys on the team that we would really like to get shot of but we can't find a replacement that would be any better.
The kids these days just want to work a keyboard and are not prepared to get toner under their fingernails. Are we an endangered species like typewriter techs?

All the qualified tradesmens are sitting on their @ssets driving Trucks and Dozers in the Mining industries, getting pay $2000-00 per week for a 7 day on 7 day off working roster. That's $2000 a week for only working 6 months of the year... You can't blame them I guess. Only problem with that is we have no tradesmen around to teach the younger apprentices for the next generation. Which means no one is going to build my retirement home. We'll have to contract out labour an experience from overseas.

I wouldn't mind picking up a full time Job within the Mine industry servicing all their machines. I could do with $2K a week and only work 6months of the year .

It's a economic positive that the Mining bubble has burst; we are starting to see a lot of tradesman leaving the Mining Industry and looking for work within their qualifications once again.

How is it that a 30 year old has been in this industry for 30 years? It just doesn't add up.
