    * optical - dirty slit glass, fuzz obstructing the laser optical path (in the drum unit), dirty laser mirrors.
    * charge - contaminated grid and/or charge wire. Problem can be moved to another color by swapping drums.
    * drum - wear. Problem can be moved to another color by swapping drums.
    * developing - observe the developer brush on the developing roller. Voids on the developing roller are caused by contamination under the doctor blade.

It can be any of these. Taking photos was a good idea.

I just dumped a lot of technical jargon on you. Ask more questions.=^..^=
We have moved the drums and the problem did not get better. I believe that you clean the silt glass with the wand that stays inside the machine, this has also been done several times and now I need a new wand cause the tech guy all but killed it. I can order another and try that. How would I observe the developer brush on the developing roller? You aren't anywhere near San Rafael are you?? lol This has been more help than the $1500 and I got a cool picture of the ventruvian man!

Did you still have the magenta and yellow drums swapped when you printed these?

If a tech can't diagnose that issue within 1 hour he doesn't know what he is doing, and you should call a different tech. I hate this type of crap, it gives all us techs a bad name. Plus that is a 15 yr old copier, why would you put $1500 into that old machine. You could get a newer C258 for around $2k.

Show the tech this post if you want to.
I've just got to this post, I was also wondering how any half decent tech can spend 8 hours on a machine. Should never spend more than an hour diagnosing and fitting those parts

I was focused on the copy quality issue but you are correct on the amount of time it should take and the age of the machine . I also just noticed they charged a shipping and handling fee. Don't know why that would be done either

You would have to pull the yellow developer unit. I don't recommend this for a user. You can cost yourself more if your not careful

    In Yellow?
If yes try cleaning the laser slit glass with the wand in the front door. If you still have problem with yellow then you may have a yellow developer unit problem. If that is the case its time to call your tech back out.
