C458 firmwre update issues

Hi All,
I have a client with 4-C458's

All 4 were on G00-R9 and I was able to update 3 of them to GCM-Y2.

On the 4th machine I got the following results:
MFP Controller - download NG
ADF Controller - download NG
Scanner/Printer controller - 10% and it just hangs there.

All 4 machines are the same configuration and starting with the same base firmware.

Any suggestions to get the 4th machine to play ball?

I would try updating FW in steps with earlier versions instead of jumping right to the latest version. I've had a few "8" series that no matter what I did the highest FW machine would accept was "X4" from 2019.

Something else came to mind, did you try and update just one item at a time? This has worked for me a few times.

I prepaired individual USB drives with G00-W5, GCD-Y1, GCF-Y1 and GCK-Y2 as stepping stones to GCM-Y2.

I got onsite and tried the first step, G00-W5, and had the same issue:

MFP = NG
ADF = NG
Scanner/printer hangs at 10%

I will try to load individual components and see if that helps.

I'm also thinking there may be a setting or FW dip switch that is blocking firmware updates? Any thoughts on that?

OK...update

No go with updating individual components either. Still getting the same errors, NG, NG and hang at 10%

Any other thoughts?

What size usb drive are you using. Sometimes 8gb is best. Other problem could be hdd or mfp.
Just because usb worked on one machine it might not work on others. Seen that happen. Also do these have bizhub secure turned on.

The jump drives are 16gb

sometimes when formatting a usb with windows will make it stop being usable to load firmware to machines . see attached bulletin . This may not be your problem but worth a try formatting USB with HP formatter tool

ive seen this, backup everything to USB and initialize the machine in service mode.
reboot
you will need to maybe turn the HDD back on (set back to installed, dont worry if it doesnt switch right away, sometimes it takes a minute or 3 to switch) then load movie data and try firmware again.
if it makes it into the FW screen then the USB disk is fine.
also make sure the serial #s are entered.
i just have a hunch that might help, if not a format of the SSD would also be a last ditch effort before id start thinking boards.

My other thought is to use the 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' method, as the reason for the FW update is procedural rather than to cure an issue.

I had recently a C308 with MFP Controller - download NG, the problem was HDD (no error).
Try to disable hdd and try to upload firmware with hdd disabled.
If work i think you need to change hdd.

Konica Minoltas sometimes are very picky about what USB drive works or doesn't, sometimes just using the same firmware from a different brand USB drive will help, not sure if that's the case here but it's an easy thing to try.
