[CQ] TASKalfa 308ci w/ Registration marks on prints

    Good morning all!

I've got two 308ci at my office (I'm an end-user now), both almost new, and one of them (the newest one, no less) is showing registration marks on some of the prints (black or color). The oldest machine works without any problem.

At first it was only in the mornings and quite faint - now it sometimes does it during the day and quite visible.

The machines are a few meters apart from eachother (one on the ground floor, the other on the upper floor).

The techs tell me they already replaced the transfer belt, the toners and updated the firmware (which is what i'd do if I was in their shoes).

Any tips I might give to them?

I'm with Dale. A sample would be useful as it is unclear what is meant by "registration" mark.

        I'm very sorry, I'm already acting like an end-user, ain't I?

I mean the pattern drawn on the ITB that the machine uses to do the color registration.

these machines were released in 2019, but you said they were new? have they been sitting in storage and just now been sold?

You’ve got a couple of these? Swapped the TR belts between machines? That will confirm pretty quickly if it’s just the belt that’s failed.

They were unpacked and installed - so, yeah, probably that.

They installed a new belt on the failing machine and it didn't solve the problem.

How far apart are repeating marks?

Using the Repetitive defects gauge might give clue as to what is failing.

You have the perfect faultfinding scenario there with two identical machines. If you’ve swapped the transfer belts between the machines and the fault remains in that one and the belt works fine in the other, I’d be looking at the TR belt cleaning bias that comes from the HVT. Pull the HVT and clean all the connection points and in particular trace the one that goes to the transfer belt cleaner. Find all the contacts between the belt and the HVT and ensure they aren’t corroded and make good firm contact.

Yes sir, these use voltage to charge the roller to clean the belt. Not a cleaning blade like most machines.
                      Hope that helps !
