    Kyocera 4002i Fusing issue

I have a customer with a 4002i. Only 50,000 total page count. Using OEM toner.
The machine works great most of the time, but when printing multiple pages, the first 10 or so
look great then it starts ghosting, causing words or lines etc to not fuse to the paper well and
you can rub the words etc with your finger and it will smudge, rub off partially and you can see
the ghost image about 3 inches down. Then they will get 100 or pages with no problems. It's intermittent.
All fuser settings in sim. 161 are at initial settings. Can the fuser pressure be adjusted intermittently on it's own?
It's obvious that the fuser is the cause. Wondering if there is a known issue with this model, maybe a bulletin
that I haven't seen yet, that addresses this issue.
    Firmware has been updated.
I'm ready to replace the fuser unit, but it only has 50,000 pages on it.
    What do you think?

Off the top of my head, we're on the 5th or 6th revision of the fuser. Replace it and limit your service calls. I also set U346 to off for the power mode.
    It will save you fusers.
    Hope that helps !

Replace it and set machine to silent mode to stop fuser rotation at idle.

Like Ropariva says, silent mode will mask the issue. Based on your using 75gsm plain paper no-gloss, I have two suggestions:

        1) Make sure that your machine is not plugged into a 800W UPS.
        2) Go into system mode and set Plain Paper as Normal3 or Thick1.

If you're using some other media please specify what type and what settings that you're using. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I just bought a couple of the 4002i. Haven't touched them yet. Sounds like this model has a long history of fuser problems.

Besides the fuser, how is the rest of the machine?

Overall good, but reports of the waste toner backing up has been an issue with this series, we have not experienced this issue, though with our machines. I believe it's a pretty involved process.

These are very picky about power. Very picky.
We believe its a hot offset occurring when you see this. We have successfully corrected by changing settings in sim 161 back by just 5 degrees depending on speed. You may need to find a cleaner circuit.
I agree with turning on silent mode too for these models.
Not at all happy with the toner felts in both the input assembly and the waste assembly as they tend to peel up and create blockage.
Plus, reusing the toner bottle as a waste toner bottle is just a bad, bad, bad idea. Several people have either figured out how to reuse waste toner as fresh toner only to ruin their copy quality and clog their units up OR they mistakenly place a new toner in the spot where the waste toner bottle goes. Both of these mistakes create unnecessary service calls and waste resources. I understand the eco-friendly principle behind the idea, but in practice, its not that great. New and used toner containers should NEVER be similar.

Other than that, not a bad device.

I'm feeling a little stupid here, because I'm not sure how to put it in silent mode. Is that so the buttons don't beep, silent mode? or are we talking about a different silent mode?

                  Easy to get to:
System Menu/Counter, Adjustment/Maintenance, Silent Mode, On
With Silent Mode in On setting, the machine will not constantly cycle.
The only downside is that first copy out time may be longer.

In Silent Mode, the engine is OFF but all operation panel functions work. It's especially useful when the enduser complains of fuser idling noise or normal fan operation. So the moment Start is pressed, the engine begins warmup, performs it's printing, then turns OFF again. It greatly improves the longevity of the fuser, but adds warmup time ... especially noticeable if the machine is currently set for 4 hr low power/6 hour sleep. I personally prefer Silent Mode on all machines, but some endusers don't have a spare 30 seconds. =^..^=

Try U346. In my experience, silent mode slows the machine speed down as well. U346 shuts the fuser off after it's done printing. It seems to be a better option.
                        Hope that helps !

I fixed a 5002i doing the same thing by increasing warmup ready center 5 degrees
                          and low power center 5.
You may have to increase edge if it tracks on the side, my 5002i ran for the full 600k pm time.

                            Re: Kyocera 4002i Fusing issue

From the time I first saw it mentioned on a post sometime last year, I have been turning U346 off as suggested on the TAxxx2 and TAxxx3 series. [U346 (Selecting Sleep Mode) > Fuser Power Mode > Off > Start > Reboot machine].

In that time I have noticed a significant improvement in fuser performance. That is, I have less problems with fusers making noise at idle or just crapping out prematurely. Turning off Fuser Power Mode in U346 is now my standard for set up.

I have not used Silent Mode except in cases with machines in very small offices and/or with challenging customers.

                            ....just sayin'
