Curling Paper

Hey Folks! I'm out in the Mass. Area having lots of issues with curling paper pretty badly... Many clients don't want to hear how the humidity is causing much of this... I go to their office, pop in a fresh ream of paper and "poof" ...The curling stops...Some still skeptical... Is there another fix for this until the fall sets in??? Maybe dehumidifier???Some kind of contraption for the trays??? I tried putting in those little packing bead pouches , but they really don't work very well... Appreciate any help!! Thanks in advance, Laser801 This is mostly on the MP4054,s ...But also on a few of the MPC,s as well...

Sounds like a sales person from a competitor is out there trying to sell them something else and saying that the machine they will get does not have problems with humidity. What the sales person is not telling them is that the machine he/she is pushing has anti condensation heaters installed, enabled and included in the price.

Probabili Paper umidity, but of i Remember well, There Is also a bullettin about the roller of exit paper unit, and an output tray "liftablle" option.but now i dont have under Hand because now i at home

Try lowering the fuser temp 10c

SP1113 set it to 1 (no curl) this does help. you can actually see it right after making the change. but if humidity is bad enough sometimes just putting a new ream of paper is all you can do, especially here in FL

The paper quality can also affect the curling tendency. If you have a good paper in your shop then leave some realms so the customer can put in the a tray on late friday and do test prints on monday and compare it with his own paper. If the room humidity/temps is too bad that a better paper quality doesn't help then the next step might be a tray heater. Here in EU I expect to see more "curling" calls than usual during autumn since people must save money and energy costs - many might turn down the heating.

You are in a no win situation here.

But if the client will consider using slightly thinker paper this is your only real option.

Even cheap 100GSM is better than good quality 80GSM in humid environment.

I had a customer with the same situation. He was using Niceday paper. Would curl when Dry and worse when Humid. I remembered that paper has 2 different finishes on each side due to the way it is processed. Flipped the paper over and it was reduced by 85%. Could try this t next visit.

Have to agree. Convinced several of my accounts to move from 20# to 24# paper. Fewer jams, better output, everyone was happier except their accountants until they got decent pricing.

We don't sell Ricoh, but I'm running into the same paper curl issues. It's always been an occasional issue, but never more so than this year for some reason. Perhaps there are cost cutting measures going on at the paper mills? I've been able to prove to the customer that most of their jamming is paper/humidity related. Humid environments, low print volume and high capacity trays are a recipe for disaster.

I've considered looking into cassette heaters, but do these really work and can they have negative results if paper is exposed to heat for a long period of time?
