i bought 8 used printers and they all have the same problem. paper jam at 1. paper just starts out of the fuser and machine goes to jam. thinking this must be a problem with the model. read the service manual (not any help) then removed the fuser and could not see any thing that would stop the paper. cleaned the photo interrupter and checked the flag all looks ok. not change in machine. JAM AT 1. hope some one has had this problem and can help me thanks howard

CLX-3175FN/XAA
It's the exit sensor. The sensors in the original build have the white connector. Part # 0604-001393
Just be careful removing the covers. Right side first, then the scanner, then the left side, then the engine top cover. Then you'll see the sensor (it's next to the fuser, not in the cover).
I can do it in 35 minutes, and I'll bet you can too, after a dozen tries. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

so blackcat4866, can you provide me more details on taking apart the samsung clx-3175fn printer? i do not want to pay a repair tech $134 to just come here because he knows how to take the printer apart.
much appreciate it.
issue i'm having is there are a lot of screws and i can take the whole thing apart but, i'm struggling with the glass copy platter. can't seem to figure out to take this off.
have scanned the internet and can't find any minor guidance on this...
ThanksComment

It's worth the $134.00 to have a professional do the work. If you do it yourself you will risk creating more problems than already exist. The copyboard glass doesn't need to come off, anyway.
I'm here to help professionals do their job better, not drive them out of business.
Please don't take this personally. There is enough information in the original post to do this task. If you want, take a try at it. But I recommend that you use the services of a professional. =^..^=Last edited by blackcat4866; 03-02-2010, 01:59 AM.If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

I RTFM. I replaced the exit sensor. I replaced the fuser, even though the old fuser was nowhere near the MTBF numbers. I still have the same jam occurring. What else can I replace?Comment

Are you sure it was the exit sensor that you replaced? There is another unrelated sensor on the print engine upper right frame that is not the exit sensor. The one that you want to replace is on the print engine upper left frame.
This photo was taken by another forum member working on the same problem:

I see the one that you're talking about (box 1, below). I replaced only one. The wrong one (box 2, below). According to the manual they are both the same type of sensor. Do you know what the second one does? I am tempted to swap the two of them to see if I can get the printer working while I wait for yet another replacement sensor. Incidentally, the part number listed from the /XAA manual (boxed in green in the image below) shows a slightly different part number, 0604-001095, than what you've listed above and the supplier carries both; I see the specs are slightly different...and so is the cost, although nominal, FWIW.

cnknudson,
The number listed in your manual is the old style sensor. It is more vulnerable to the heat damage, than the new style sensor (the number I listed). If you install the old style sensor you will be replacing it again soon, guaranteed. Warranty machines showed up only two weeks old, and less than 100 prints. I have never replaced a new style sensor.
If you installed a 0604-001393 sensor in the right side position, I would move it to the left side position, and re-install the sensor you removed into the right side position. I don't know why, but the identical old style sensor on the right does not seem to be affected by the heat. Maybe better ventilation in that location?
What does the right side sensor do? I think it's the cover open sensor, when you raise the scanner, but there is only one vague reference to it in the block diagram manual. These are not great manuals. You probably noticed. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Hi guys,
Just bumping this thread because of a small difficulty I'm getting while reassembling.
I've RTFM and gone through all the steps mentioned to get rid of the pesky 'jam at 1' but now I'm getting 'Scan unit open or Jam at 2'.
Any clue if I'm forgetting some step during assembly? Have you ever ran into this?
I must mention; the side covers aren't on the unit yet while I turned it on - could that have an effect (I didn't want to put them on because they were a b!tch to take off).
I love my little printer and just want to get it going again...
Thanks,

Sorry, I've not seen those others. The best thing you can do is re-do the entire installation, and find the connector that you missed the first time. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

Hi,
Bumping this thread because my CLX-3175FN is getting JAM 1 very frequently now BUT the paper barely exit the cassette (by about 1/2 inch).
Since the paper is mostly still in the cassette, I am expecting JAM 0 but the printer displays JAM 1.
I used to be able to assist the paper feeding by pushing the top sheet in the cassette into the printer when the printer is "sucking" the paper in, but this "remedy" is getting less effective nowadays.
One thing I realized is when printing multiple pages, only the 1st page needed assisted feeding, page 2 onwards fed fine, until the next print job.
I suspected the pickup roller, but cleaning that didn't help. Also it didn't look worn out.
Is there any else I should be checking/cleaning?
Or should I replace the pickup roller and exit sensor and cross fingers?
Thank you.

I think I'd start with the sensor described in this post. It's the only jamming issue common to this model. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
