that line is merely an illusion. Following evolution and Atheism to their logical conclusion, rape has no more moral consequence than eating or sleeping. I realize challenging people's beliefs isn't very popular, but I have little daughters and don't like what their future looks like without Christians. Wow, that is just dumb. Basically you just said that believing in a story that says that if you don't follow a set of rules, you will be tortured forever, is the only thing that keeps Christians from going insane and raping and killing everyone. That is just truly terrifying to think that when reality sets in and you realize that religion is just fairy tales to keep poor people in line while they are alive, you will all go insane loose your morals. That is really really scary. You read into my entire post, the concept that the threat of being "tortured forever" is the only thing preventing everyone from "going insane and raping and killing everyone" is the logic of Fixthecopier, not Christians. Teaching people to "Love God with all your heart, mind and soul" is how Christians motivate people to do the right thing. Besides, tortured forever? Fairy tales? Which is it, are people actually tortured forever or is it a fairy tale?? You're avoiding a legitimate question and in light of the fact that there is legislation being proposed that makes Pedophiles legitimate and gives them rights, yes I do wonder what will stop people 100 years from now from prostituting children or other atrocities. Christians have brought Hospitals, education, rights for women and minorities, "do unto others", and "love your neighbor" everywhere they have gone. I'll ask again, what makes you think future generations won't be raping or killing everyone? Sir, I am so sorry you saw a news story that upset you and you have decided to make it a God issue. I can sit here all day and list all the horrible things religion had done in the name of God, but why. You know history, and you can interpret it any way you want. I do not believe that any of the religious people reading this are rapist and murderers or bad people in any way, just because they love Jesus, or any other religion. I believe all religions have nut cases who rant and rave about impending doom, and all religions have really cool people who try to live their life as an example of how their beliefs have made them better people. We can go back and forth all day on this and neither will gain an inch of ground. If a belief system that says God is watching your every move keeps you in check, then peace be with you.
As an atheist, I do not believe there is an afterlife, so I do not get a second chance. I will not lay on my death bed and expect a new life to begin when I die. I am good now, because that is the right thing to do. I can't commit a crime with the belief that if I am really sorry, the big guy in the sky will wipe the slate clean. I guess this is just a hard pill for atheists/evolutionists to swallow: IF you believe there is no God and we evolved, some guy having sex with CHILDREN is not wrong. Morals and religion are inseparable. Explain how animals aren’t “wrong” for killing or rape but we are? The morals of evolution/atheism are this: killing has no more moral consequence than sleeping or eating. Again, it helps me sleep at night knowing the people here draw a line, but that line is arbitrary. You can say some guy having sex with a child “crosses a line” because it, at least for the moment, is against the law. There are people who are making the case it is should not be against the law. Then what can you say? It is harmful? That's their argument for changing the law. There is some truth to saying the only reason people know who Jesus is is because they live in a country where that just happens to be the religion. The reason people even make a line that’s wrong is because they live in a country where followers of Jesus have been.Again, God watching my every move is NOT what “KEEPS ME IN CHECK”. I do the right thing because I love God like a father. I’m not saying everyone IS a rapist or murderer, either. I’m saying it is ridiculous for any atheist/evolutionist to say anything is wrong. Well, the 'livelook' video above was indeed cool. I've watched it twice in succession , but it still has one missing link and that is ....''the beginning, or the origin'' of that 'SOMETHING' from which the evolutionary process starts. As far as pointing out all the silly crap in the old testament well that is my point. Atheist will stop doing that when the Christians stop using it to push their morals and laws on others, claiming it to be the word of God. If you want to stake the claim that being gay is a sin, then be willing to defend all the other crazy shit that the old testament says. It is all or nothing, you can't cherry pick your morals and just pretend the rest is not there. If the 10 commandments were relevant 2000 years ago, then why do I have to turn on my TV and see creationist trying to push for wasting tax payer money to have them displayed in public buildings.
The Christian religion will die of old age. The old farts who like to take the whole bible literally will kill it. And the reason is that they take all those bible stories as literal translation In an age where information is available at your fingertips it becomes more and more difficult to get children to keep the faith if you are constantly telling outrageous tales. The refusal of the stubborn Christian right to change will seal its fate. They know this, so they make weak attempts to hang on, by pushing for prayer in public schools. All this tells us is that your faith is so weak that you worry that if your child is not drowned in prayers and chants praise for Jesus 24 hours a day, they may think for themselves and you will lose them. The Christian right also trys to hold on through censorship. If they can influence others to bend to their will and not let people think for themselves , they have a better shot at control. I read a forum that atheist go to. There are examples all the time of how that site is blocked from access from schools and other places. Why? Because religons hold on the masses is so weak that even a taste of truth may set them free. The site has almost 2 million subscribers. Last year at this time they were at a million and the subscribers are coming in at a very rapid pace. When you read the postings you find a great deal of them are from teenage kids or collage age kids who are keeping silent until they can get out on their own, based on the other postings from young people who came out to their parents and were thrown out on the street. So there are thousands of homes right now, that when the parents pass on, will end religions hold on that family.
The nice Christians can try to hold on, but the nutjobs are working overtime to crash and burn.
DAG has show to be an intelligent person with very modern view of what was written. If his view were taught, is would lend some credibility to his religion, but he would be in a very small minority in America where the bible tales are taken as written. So for example I am supposed to believe that the whole world was flooded and all were killed and civilization had to start over. Big problem with that. You see I can trace Chinese dynasties back to way before the time of the flood, and some how, according to Christians their whole race was wipe out, and then the descendants of Noah repopulated China with people who look amazingly like the ones who were there before and even managed to learn the same language and writing and art. I can't seem to find a big break in the timeline of any civilization that would account for the world starting over... because it never happened! Dag has an understanding of how these old folk tales were adopted by people to give credibility to their faith, but not many others do. In America the History channel just played a new miniseries on the Bible. As usual all the tales were literal translations of the bible. So once again people had those tall tales reinforced as truth, and those who believe that version will be left scratching their head trying to show a point in history where man just disappeared off the earth.
Hey DAG, Americans just watched a show about the bible that was full of white people. Where in the hell did all those white people come from? Truth be known, if they had used people who look like Jews from the middle east, no one would watch. And go figure, they made the devil look just like our black president. My point in bringing this up to you is that so far you have had the most modern view on the bible stories and I thought it was relevant to show what the Western world is taught about a middle eastern religion.
