      Re: Trimalleolar

I guess you'll never know where a subject can meander off to.

Anyway ... Wednesday my physical therapist found that perfect place on my ankle to massage that makes me yelp in pain. After 15 excruciating minutes she finally stopped. The next day, Thursday, I noticed that I wasn't really using the crutches so I left them in the car around noon. Friday I didn't use the crutches at all.

Small steps, but steps in the right direction. There is still plenty of pain in the ankle, but manageable. I give the credit to my physical therapist. As always, my only real talent is persistence.

I've started work with a new employer. It's been a full week now. The environment at the old place had become so toxic, and you don't even notice until you've been away from it for a while. I'm taking calls, and if I don't say so myself I'm transitioning OK. The main copier line is Toshiba, but I'm being directed to everything else, probably because of my varied experience. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Did the same thing last July. Your right about a place becoming toxic!!!!!! My new place is much less stressful and more laid back, It's not everything you could want but it's so much better than the last place!!!!!!!!!!

If I remember my high school anatomy classes correctly, the ankle has a lot of tiny bones in it that need to be aligned rather precisely for the ankle to work properly. She probably found one that was still somewhat out of place.
Still, you're making really good progress! (At least as far as I can tell. But the closest I've come to something like this was spraining my Achilles tendon, and all I had to do then is wrap my ankle up tight with an Ace bandage and hop around like a dummy for a while, so I haven't come close to what you had to go through.) Hope the progress keeps up, and don't overdo it.

Your both right about the work place becoming toxic. I gave myself a well earned break and took some over due self generated leave. Apart from some small I.T. work haven't worked on a machine for twelve months an I certainly feel a better person for the break. The missus informs me that I better not get to comfy with the home life just yet. She has'nt got the whip out to me for the time being, but I feel it's only a matter of time before she pushes me out the door on my way back to wick, wort, I mean "work"...yes that nasty foriegn word... putfff... Oh well all good things must come to an end.....
In truth we have been working on some property extensions. Those extensions should come to completion in the next couple of months if all goes to plan...

I wish that there was a nice, clearly defined answer to that. Most of the time, the only clue that I've done too much ... is falling down. Pain isn't any kind of reliable indicator. The pain varies a little, but never goes away completely. In fact, if the ankle isn't hurting I wonder if I'm not slacking off. It will be a sign of advanced healing, when the pain consistently decreases.

I was talking to one of my new co-workers Friday, and she asked why I was walking around if the ankle still hurts? The answer, of course, is that I would never walk if I was waiting for it to be painless.

I'm jealous. The last 12 weeks has been both relaxing and frustrating. I have time to think of all kinds of things to do ... and none of the ability to do them. If I can just stay on track for another 10 years, I'll be right where you are. =^..^=

Well, first and foremost consider the advice that the doctors are giving you. They spent a lot of time and money getting into the medical profession, and from what I can tell getting sued for malpractice doesn't sound like a lot of fun. So a doctor's advice would always be the best definition of that.

On the other hand, if you would consider a suggestion from a dummy, you might think of it like the first time you take a car out on snow covered roads. You already know how the car feels and handles before the snow, so start there. If you don't spin out try pushing a little harder, if you do feel the car doing the ice dance back off.

Then again, I'm not a doctor and I haven't played one on TV, so don't do that.

That's good advice, and a close approximation to what I'm doing now. Yesterday I had another really painful/really effective therapy session. My therapist says that I'm the only person she know that laughs when it gets painful.

I'm still moving slow, but less like Igor.

                      Re: Trimalleolar

Well it's 13 weeks since the incident, and 10 weeks since the surgery. I tossed aside the crutches two weeks ago ... maybe too soon, but I'm a stubborn bastard.

I start the day with lunges to stretch the tendons. I'm pretty good until 2:00pm then the pins and needles return. I do better if is keep a slow steady pace, not work then rest. Every time I rest I have to start with the stretches again. For the last week I've been wearing my Converse All-Stars (the only shoes that open up enough to get around the swollen ankle). The swelling is down about half from it's worst.

The last few days I've been working on walking stairs normally. Better in the morning, struggling in the evening. Range of motion is just enough for walking, not much to spare. I especially notice it walking around in a soft grassy field, where every little bump/valley feels like a mountain/crevasse. I can even put on short bursts of speed, which to everybody else looks like a slow creep.

I'll consider myself mostly healed when half the people I talk to don't feel the need to ask about my limp. It's still around 2/3. I'll see the surgeon one more time Thursday. It will probably be the last time, unless something goes drastically wrong. Therapy continues for a couple more weeks, as needed.

I've been managing 3 to 4 calls a day, to my own surprise. I want to thank everyone here for their support. =^..^=
