I'm with you BC, send me to Dreamland every time! Had/having some molars extracted, can't imagine what THAT must've been like back when barbers did the "dentistry". Hope the PT goes well.

      Re: Trimalleolar

I found something really simple, to start. I just stand (like an average human on both limbs, mind you) and gently rock side to side. When the full weight hits the right it tingles a lot. Ok, I know this sounds silly, but it's baby step #2. Baby step #1 was standing without the crutches.

As I learn new tricks, I'll show them. =^..^=

      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

Many years ago I did a jump on a mountain bike and landed on my chin. One of my friends said "go home have a wash you'll be ok, the other took me to hospital. Now if you hold the skin around the jawbone on the cheek and wiggle it, it moves, the skin around the chin doesn't move as freely.
I had tore this connection away.

I arrived at hospital and all the operating theaters were in use, all I could have was a local anesthetic, the surgeon said he would have prefered to knock me out for the procedure. Four very painful injections later I felt nothing, but still to this day can remember a surgeon holding my chin "skin" down while another with some special kind of vacuum cleaner hovering mud from under my jawbone.

See now, you just can't un-remember that kind of stuff.

I used to have a customer, he was a retired State Police Investigator that reveled in that kind of gore. Whenever I came to work on his machine he would show me photos ... for example of a guard rail stuck through a car, and through guys chest, and the like. I can still picture the poor bastard. You just cant un-remember. =^..^=

You never forget. When I was 6, living in Texas while pops was taking helicopter training, we were playing by a highway bridge that went over a small creek. I was climbing across standing on the water pipe that was on the side of it, while my chest was level with the edge of the road, over about a 20 foot drop. A red Volkswagen beetle went by and a guy in the back seat leaned out and tossed a beer bottle out. It smashed on my arm. I held on, inched my way back to the ground, then ran screaming home with my arm covered and dripping blood. My poor mother freaked. They rushed me to the base hospital. Took 3 nurses to hold me down, screaming, while my arm was stitched. When they pulled off my boots, they poured glass out. It was a wonder my feet were not cut up. My right index finger still has about 6 inches of scar where it sliced down and around, and 6 or 7 scars up my right arm are still visible.

              First day of physical therapy:

Wow! For the little that we did, I am tired! Collene started me slowly strolling around with crutches, but imitating the walking motion. Then she showed me my exercises: rolling, twisting, flexing, ... of which I could do almost nothing. Then I got a foot massage to reduce the swelling. I tried to convince her to do the other foot too, but she said no. Then iced down for 10 minutes. and Amanda set me up with appointments for the next two weeks, more to follow.

I must say it feels better than it has since 10 January, though I haven't achieved much. The homework will keep me very busy. =^..^=

So here's the therapy device. There is some variation from the initial concept. Most of it was scrap lying around the garage.

                  Therapy Device 2.JPGTherapy Device 1.JPG

The therapist educated me on expectations for an average human: from neutral 15 degrees up, and 60 degrees down.
For an above average human, like a ballerina, contortionist, or gymnast: from neutral 30 degrees up, 90 degrees down.

My left ankle is slightly above average: 15 degrees up, 75 degrees down. That's my reference.
The right is ... well, far below average: 2 degrees up, 20 degrees down, and swells to about 6% larger than the left when I get to exercise it, so I've got some work to do. =^..^=

                      I have two competing factors:
                      1) my competitive nature.
                      2) frequently testing up to and beyond what I can do (falling down).

I'm getting really good at the latter. Thanks for the happy thoughts. =^..^=

So you won't be dancing the lead in Swan Lake this year then? Good job you have your day time job to fall back on. Talking of which, hope you have plenty of sick leave banked up.

That's a story for another day.

And yes, my Swan Lake days are over for a while. I never was particularly graceful, even when both ankles worked. =^..^=
