8 series to 0i things to watch out for

Hi All,
We just received an off lease batch of 0i machines, and I'm starting to familiarize myself and my staff with them.

I'd appreciate the benefit of the community experience in regard to differences, pitfalls and other things to be aware of.

In my fleet i have only really had issues with the Subhopper paddles causing TCR issues and a few machines with issues with the scanner light bar.
I have always felt they have been a bit less robust physically and mentally (SSD board issues) than the previous 8 series.

Colour reproduction was a bit off at times too, which can be sorted with info from this thread:

All in all I have come to like this series.

All in all I have come to like this series.

+1 on a lot of that... as mentioned they print color/black differently. There will be a noticeable change in color output. Also it will eat K toner faster.


Be ready for CPU board issues, and SSD issues.

Get your hands on the Diag firmwares and the brand new CPU firmware upgrade firmware.

It's now essential to update firmware, boot rom, cpu and function version to latest. As long you don't have to change CPU board or SSD they are pretty close to 8 series. That said there are numerous small things to watch for, same as any copier line before. You should be familiar with them very soon if you know 8 series well

I got the Firmware, Boot ROM and Function Version updated on the C360i I'm playing with. Any help on the CPU update? What would I search in One Stop?

Another thing to note , NEVER Clone the security or certificates from an 8 and try to put on an i . you will brick the i. It is safe to clone all other settings.

Look for something like "AA2J0Y0-F000-GXX-42.exe". It's under special firmware. GXX-42 is for a C250i/C300i/C360i. It's called "Power Control CPU2(LPPP) and MFP Controller BOOT program FW for C5372 (CPU temperature failure)." Look at page one of the readme PDF. It will show all the firmwares to download under "Jig Firmware".

Not sure if it was uploaded yet but attached is the PDF that comes with it.


Also while you are in the special firmwares download the diagnosis and recovery tool for each model. This tool will check for and help recover from bad SPI flash and bad SSDs. Please be aware there are 2 versions. Using the older version at this point may create false postivies. Using a C250i/C300i/C360i again for an example the one to download is "AA2J0Y0-F000-GXX-34.exe".

AA2J0Y0-F000-GXX-42 came out after RE. We have had to update the CPU "power control" thingy (CPU core voltage setting maybe???) while RE is already installed. Maybe they updated the RE package silently? Not sure.

Look under special firmware. It's the first item.
