If the developer wasn't turning would machine still give a good level history reading? The OP said level was good at 6%. This is why I ruled out dev unit not turning.

Thanks for update. Good to know. Looks like it was a common problem and surprised I never saw it. I was servicing quite a few of the 4 & 4e series a few years back and never had that sol go bad.
Does this only happen to higher volume machines? Does it happen with the 8 series or Kon Min fix it?
Was there a bulletin on this? I've scanned the TSB's hundreds of times and don't recall seeing that.👍 1Comment

Unfortunately, in all KM copiers and printers (and not only those) the solenoids might cause problems.
Usually, the (black) insulating material used to prevent noise - melts, causing the metal arm to stick and not return properly as the electro-magnet is not strong enough.
Usually you can fix that with a patent, by lowering the distance between the metal arm and the electro-magnet.Comment

Wow, we have had hundreds of 4, 4e, 8 and 8e machines out in the field over the years (606 machines past and present to be exact), and to date have yet to see a single solenoid (SD4) failure. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed!!A Ricoh Service Tech for 7 year. A Konica Minolta Service Tech for 7 years. Now, KM service manager for 4 years.
My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...Comment
