Any Kyocera with a charge roller

Hey guys, I've been servicing Kyocera since the mid-80s, but with this new style of machine and a charge roller versus a main charge assembly, I seem to be struggling with the correct way to clean a charge roller. I've been using plain water and a cotton rag, I'm curious if there is another way out there to clean these rollers so that the image quality doesn't deteriorate within a week?
I can put in a new charge roller from Kyocera (MC3100) and it will last maybe a month, then I go in and I clean that charge roller with plain water and a cotton cloth and it might last 7 to 10 days. Is there an alternative way to clean these charge rollers without compromising the surface?

Sounds like you are using non OEM toner.

Replacing the charge roller & drum should last life or use Kyocera warranty to return.

Only time an issue like this is

1) you are using china crap after market MC rollers or
2) if you are using aftermarket crap toner

Only time I have to clean MC-3100 charge rollers is if non genuine toner is used. Cleaning with any generic non bleach kitchen cleaner has done the job for me over the years. If I want to get fancy I might finish it off with a damp rag.
Here’s your permanent fix.
Get a genuine toner. Put the printer into “Developer” mode. Turn off. Remove the dev and empty out all the toner . Vacuum it out to remove all traces. Re fit to the printer, and pop the new toner in. Make sure your TR roller is clean. You will never need to clean it again after this. Turn on and wait the 10-15 mins for it to add the toner.
Never use generic toner. Ever. Ok!?

The key to cleaning charge rollers is to use clean water or glass cleaner, and to make sure that it is completely completely dry before re-installing the roller. Even then, it's a 60/40 proposition whether you'll make it better, or you'll make it worse. Given the option, the new charge roller is always a better choice than cleaning.

I'm don't know what's so different between Lexmark charge rollers and Kyocera charge rollers, but the difference is undeniable. A Lexmark charge roller is a lifetime part. I've never changed one. An HP charge roller usually lasts as long as it's drum. And a Kyocera charge roller might last 1/3 to 1/2 the life of the drum, IF it is replaced immediately when it starts making the spots. Otherwise the drum may be damaged too.

As much as I disliked stringing charge wires, They are a lot cheaper than charge rollers, and you can carry a spool of wire around in your pocket. =^..^=

I use to use Nu-Finish car polish to clean and polish them. Worked a charm. Cotton ball ro clean and a fresh cotton ball to polish.

Glass cleaner here too, works a treat and lasts for us.

I use Methyl Hydrate on them. It's in the paint section at your hardware store.
First i use canned air to blow the charge roller off and the cleaning roller. Also check there is no dirt ontop of the drum that was stuck behind that mylar.
Then I take a high quality shop wipe and soak a section of the wipe with methyl and wipe the crap out of the roller until it's nice and black. I wait for it to evaporate off before turning the roller to continue cleaning.
The key is to keep the rag wet. Once the Methyl Hydrate starts to evaporate from your rag it becomes hard to slide down the roller and that is when you get little fluffys.

You can over clean a MC-8550 roller. That coating will come off if you scrub too much! Ask me how i know 😅
Ive also done it to a Ricoh charge roller but it didn't really impact the copy quality. The Kyocera sure did!

I use Methyl Hydrate on glass/Mirrors as well. It evaporates super fast leaving a clean finish unlike 70% Isopropyl alcohol.
Also works great in the Alcohol stove in the boat.
You can also squirt it on your service mangers desk and light it on fire and watch them start panicking then wipe it off with a rag and walk away like nothing happened.

Been using Glass cleaner for years with no problems.The newer charge rollers from kyocera seem to last the life of the drum.

We just use water. You are diffidently using generic toner!

Thanks for all the responses... I will tell you guys, I AM Kyocera thru & thru.. I know from experience that Kyocera MITA machines do NOT like Generic toners. I only use Genuine Kyocera toners & Parts. I have always preached the Genuine toner & parts word! That being said... I will give the glass cleaner a try & see how much luck I have with that. I haven't had much luck with cleaning the charge roller and maybe I have been doing it wrong... I will see if I can find a small bottle of the Methyl Hydrate to try as well.

I find soap and water work fine, however the more you clean the faster they get contaminated. After cleaning I put some liquid Turtle Wax on and wipe clean. this replenishes the oils that got scrubbed away and repel contaminates.

i use "Awsome" cleaner from "Dollar Tree" it works well but be sure to dry well. Than clean it with wet cloth with water.

Windows cleaner works fine, but the non-original toner is the main issue, as is the wearing of the cleaning blade. A used cleaning blade leaves a small amount of toner, which is then collected by the charge roller.

It's genuine toner, I've said it within this post... Always GENUINE Kyocera toner... I've been doing this since 1986 and I have learned that there is no cheap shortcut when using toner in a Mita/Kyocera machine.
