My biggest oops had nothing to do with a copier, but I'll share it anyway. It happened when I was in the service. I don't recall the particular holiday, but we had all the aircraft and equipment on display and had lots of people milling around looking at stuff. I was on firetruck duty that day and we were supposed to do a demo for all to see. The plan was that I would use the turret on top of the truck to chase one of the guys across the ramp back to the hanger. Should give everyone a good laugh. Needless to say the plan didn't work out quite that way. The lever on the turret has two positions, Water and Foam. It also has a lock on it to keep it still when not in use. When it came time for the demo I forgot to unlock it and I guess I got a little excited, because I pulled the lever to foam instead of water, Which wouldn't have been too bad had there not been a helicopter about 30 feet in front of us. You guessed it, perfect arc to the helicopter, which had an open window, filled up the cockpit with foam and covered the helicopter within about 3 seconds, which would have been bad enough. But when I shut it off I noticed a mound of foam in front of the helicopter start moving and it reached up to take off it's glasses. The mound of foam was not pleased. Again this would have been bad enough, but it turned out the mound of foam was a retired WWI General. Needless to say when promotions came around next time my name was mysteriously not on the list.
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

I had recently dropped a toner cartridge I was putting in the customer's machine and it looked like the sonic waves after a bomb goes off...took a while to clean up too.

Copier is on fire. Told operator to turn off and unplug copier. By the time I got back, the fuser had got so hot that it had started melting the wiper. Was not burning, just smoking enough to set off the halon system.

But about 7 years ago I was working on the delivery system of a Standard bookletmaker. It takes the collated pages, guillotine folds the pages as it staples them and delivers them through rollers ultimately into the trimmer unit.

The problem was that the rollers were delivering the booklets crookedly, thus cutting crooked. I disabled the shut-off switch on the protective cover so I could operate the guillotine fold/rollers and watch where I needed to make the adjustment so that it would feed straight. As I stuck my head in close to watch, my hair became caught in the rollers. My hair started pulling my head in close to the guillotine fold & I yelled for help. People were so freaked out that they just watched and didn't turn the machine off. So I just yanked my head real hard and pulled a handful of my hair out.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Never did that again.
Isn't it great that humans can't move their ass and turn off a machine to save someone's life.

Amazing how "urgent" it is for someone just to make a gd print or copy. If it's as important then they should be paying 10 times what they are for a machine and service should be $1,000 an hour.

I mean sob. So you can't copy or print. B.F.D. Go do something else.

Oh boy, lots of great stories in here!

Lets see, stupid things I've done: dropped huge amounts of waste toner? Check! Dropped a machine while delivering it to a costumer! Check!

One time I had to go to this office building late in the afternoon. Guard stopped me, didn't want to let me in. I call the customer, customer calls guard, guard calls my company etc etc. This takes about 45 minutes and lots of negotiating and calling before I'm allowed in. By the time I get in all the people in the office are ready to go home and a bit frustrated that I arrive this late. (as if it's my fault that their security is clueless) So one lady decides to wait while I fix the machine. Of course she asks 'This won't take long, will it?', I'm already a bit nervous due to the incident with the guards.... So I check the machine (aficio 200) which works ok, but it makes a lot of squeaking noises. I take the back panel off and I start looking around, I loosen a screw and I see it falling straight in to the power supply. Sparks everywhere, mains power goes out, entire floor is without power. The lady asks me 'Don't you have to turn the machine off before you work on it?'... She was right of course. To make make matters worse it took about an hour before we found a janitor who could turn the power back on. Lesson learned!

Another stupid thing I did in my early days. Ricoh Aficio 200 - Sc545: I replace the fuser thermistor. still the same. Checked the fusing lamps. still the same. Decided to replace the entire fuser: still the same. After lots of cursing and an hour later I remember! Whoops, I need to reset this code in the service mode ....

At least the customer didn't notice anything.

A few years ago I was working on a machine in a large school, and left my soldering iron switched on hooked on the end of the machine, unknown to me there was a heat sensor on the ceiling above, it set the fire alarms off and the whole school was evacuated, 2500 kids were left standing out in the pouring rain...ooops...

That and they were the 'newbie' machines when I started.

Can't remember what I posted, but I'll post something "new" (I hope) I've snapped a fuser lamp infront of a customer. And I've broken an original glass infront of a customer as well. It was on an OLD 6713. I had the holder for it off and just so happen to pop open the clam and the sucker flew off... ( it was kinda funny really)
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Clamshell design with moving tabletop? Like the Mita DC-111C? I've sent a few of those skating across the floor. After a while you learn to check if that rubber endstop is intact. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
