Firmware on bizhub 224e gone wrong

    Gentlemen

Customer was having intermittent printing issues. I haven't updated the firmware on this machine. I installed FW_A61F0Y0-F000-GDS-M1.
All the files installed and the print button was blue. I turned it off removed the flash drive and started up. Now it gets to one shark fin reboots and reboots. I tried to install a different firmware and it won't get past the first shark fin before rebooting. What happened? and is it fixable without having to replace circuit boards.

I wonder if I may of put the wrong firmware in the machine. I don't have real time access to Konica Minolta' s site so I can't check to see if the file is for the correct machine. I get access maybe once a year and a download all the files I can and try to get them organized in the right folders.

We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
      The medication helps though...

Why did you update FW? Was there issue with machine? We usually leave well enough alone with these older models and don't do anything if they are working ok..

You can't load wrong firmware, if wrong F/W it will just boot up normally after a few mins.

I would roll back FW to earlier version.

See if it will boot up with HDD disconnected

I was out there several times for a printing problem. The customer said the machine would lock up and would not print until she unplugged it. I never saw the problem myself. I figured it was a shot in the dark. Silly me.

I forgot to mention do the following when you get machine working. It was addressing the original issue.

I would look at turning off the sleep mode. You have to go into service mode and "permit" sleep mode, then admin mode to turn off. Disable sleep will be grayed out unless you "permit" in service mode.

Or there may be a more serious issue with MFP, etc and why customer had to keep unplugging to reset.

Not saying this is your issue but keep in mind the memory battery is going bad on many of these older "4" series.

Sleep mode is turned off. I'll check the battery when I go back.

If you get the machine back alive or are having intermittent problems try this.

Sometimes the customer adds a new device to the network with either the device off and the new device grabs the same IP that the copier had or they manually put the IP address of the copier on the new device. I once had a machine that was having intermittent printing problems. It turned out to be their new smart thermostat. They programed the same IP of the copier to the thermostat. To see if this is your problem you can run the ping command with a space and -t on the end of the IP the it will continue to ping until you close the command prompt. While its pinging disconnect the network cable going to the copier it should start failing. if you continue to get a successful ping with the copier unplugged from network then you have something else on the network with the same IP.

load the correct boot file for the firmware revision you loaded.

                      Good advice.

When I was there before the firmware debacle, I did find a duplicate IP and I corrected it. I thought I was done but they called back. I could never reproduce their issue when I was on site so I thought I'll try firmware as a last resort.

I would if I could get the machine to accept the firmware. Even with the flash drive in the usb port after I lift the metal flap; the machine gets to the first shark fin then reboots over and over.
One suggestion was to leave the machine on for 15 minutes or so. Maybe somehow it will boot up to point where I can install firmware. I don't believe I put the wrong software in the machine. I think the machine was somewhat compromised before the update.

This looks like NVRAM corruption. This is why I don't do firmware updates to the 4 series machines anymore. You only find out after doing firmware and because you did the firmware you get the blame for it. Sorry buddy. I wish I had better news.

have you tried the board clearing tool? 789be i think.

if its rebooting with a jump drive in the firmware port. it s not seeing the correct startup files for what model it thinks it is on the drive.
