      Re: The random thought thread

So I just got internet and cable back on after the floods 8 days ago. Been using the hot spot from my phone to get online and check the news and weather. Myself and family were lucky. Compared to some, we were just slightly annoyed. The people in the next county were devastated.

I found the first hardship to be no coffee the day after the storm. No power. I was planning on busting up some lighter knot{old pine tree root that is hard as a rock and saturated with turpentine}, to build a fire and boil water. Then I remembered I had no bottled water, I use a well and pump and with out power the pump don't run. Almost all the bridges around me failed or were under water. Not used to feeling trapped.

If you were ever wondering what would happen if water rushed in while the brand new Ricoh was plugged in and turned on, well wonder no more. It blows a hole through both ends of the fuser film. Just picked up another one today. The brand new bizhub 287 was completely submerged. The copier was 5 days old.

Thanks for the photos fixthecopier, looks like NC has a lot of challenges left from Matthew. Hard to believe it was only a cat 1 storm, but you had a lot of rainfall prior. Good luck and wishes to all affected, our East Coast here in Canada also has severe flooding in the Maritimes. A long recovery ahead for many!

Huh, well after fixthecopier's posts, this kind of seems stupid. But it's still random.
This is a calaboose, with an explanation:

Calaboose is a corruption of Spanish: calabozo, or French: calabouse, meaning dungeon.

The picture you see is a one room historic jail in Delmar, Iowa, USA

The calaboose is a 10-by-12-foot (3.0 by 3.7 m) structure. The vaulted concrete roof is 8 feet (2.4 m) high. The walls of locally quarried sandstone are 2 feet (0.61 m) thick. Narrow window slits with grated openings are located on the east and west elevations of the building. The main entrance into the structure is a heavy cast iron door with strap hinges and a grated opening located on the south elevation. The interior is a single room that is sheathed in plaster without ornamentation. The furnishings include a stove, folding cot, bureau, table, and chair that appear to be from the early twentieth century.

                Definitely random. =^..^=

                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.

                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

It is a place that back in the day towns around here that were too small to have a proper jail used as a general purpose jail cell. Mostly as a drunk tank for railroad workers who couldn't hold their alcohol apparently. While there's hardly any sign of it anymore, I guess there were railroads all over the place here around a hundred years ago. That was the hot tech back in those days after all.
The article says that the name calaboose was an adaptation of the Louisiana French word calabouse, which was an adaptation of the Spanish word calabozo, which apparently means dungeon.
Sorry for the stupidly small picture.

I thought it may have been associate with the Red-Light district(brothels)...

The word calaboose tripped a light bulb moment in that I immediately thought of the rock group Queen with their lyrics of the song "Bohemian Rhapsody"... "Calaboose Calaboose will you do the fandango..."

.. But... the "mondegreens" would be short lived as I googled the lyrics only to find out that I have been singing the wrong lyrics all these year. Correct lyrics are "Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango". Close though...

Then, those ear-worms(as you guys said)anouyed me throughout the rest of day.

Calaboose calaboose will you do the fandango...

My wife went to volunteer at a place that gives out free pet food and supplies to people who can't afford them. Came home sad and upset about an older lady who came in and told them she could no longer feed herself and her pets so she was buying the pet food and eating it with her pets. I have had weeks where all I could afford was cat and dog food but have not had to eat it. Keeps things very real about how there is always someone else who has it worse than you do. This place also take food donations for people and was able to help the lady.

This may be a little comfort, but the US government requires that all petfood be suitable for human consumption because of things just like this.

Alpo makes these small soft dog biscuits I get for my Chihuahua. I can't help but notice hoe much they smell like Slim Jims. I haven't tried them. I am curious as to how many ingredients are the same. Not sure if the results would make me feel better about the biscuits or worse about the Slim Jims.

The Sheba brand canned cat food is pretty good. Needs salt though.
